POETRY
Thoughts in October
Christine Mallon

I am outside taking up space

expanding like light

into all the places day rests—

in between power lines

lightly on the weeds

of the growing field

I remember the subway

crossing knees to fit

the tight wedge

of neighboring legs

the allotted, dainty slice

of air and nobody

knows how outward I’ll get

Christine Mallon is a poet from New Jersey who works in higher education.
