SKOO welcomes submissions on a rolling basis across genres, including poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, plays, and visual art. We enjoy art that is thoughtful, timeless, and elegant. While we are proud to be a publication closely linked with Columbia University's Writing MFA program, we do not exclusively publish work by their students and alumni. We ask that you not send us work that you think we will like based on what we previously published. We like to be surprised, and to mix things up!

In order to keep SKOO sustainable, we are not currently accepting submissions through Submittable. All submissions are free. Our submissions are open year-round, and all submissions will be considered for an upcoming issue. You will hear back from us within 8 weeks, whether your work has been accepted or not. Feel free to query if you haven't received a response after two months.

Submission Guidelines:

Please email submissions along with a third-person bio to somekindofopening@gmail.com with "Submission - Your Genre" in the subject line. Previously unpublished material only—we don't consider work posted on personal blogs or social media to be published. Simultaneous submissions are great, just please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere! All rights revert back to artist upon publication.

Poetry:

Up to 5 pages. Send us work that gives a sense of your full range of styles!

Prose/Scripts:

Up to 7,000 words

Please send us prose single-spaced, with a line between each paragraph, as that is how it will appear on the site.

Visual Arts:
Up to 10 images
